Goa Taxiway Project in a Muddle
What is the essence of Goa? Is it due to the fact it happens to be one of the most beauteous tourist spots in India or whether for having the sprawling and exquisite beaches in the country? Or even for becoming the center of National Film Festivals? Whatever it is, it is the high time to beautify the state and for that it is essential to concentrate on the development of the airports and the allied infrastructure. With this end in view in the recent days the Civil Aviation Ministry has given its approval for a parallel taxiway at Dabolim airport in the recent days. However, doubts are gathering among the populace over both the future and the process of execution of the entire project. What has been found in this respect is that even the initiation of the project has become a distant dream. The main reason being the Navy which is yet to take the prolific decision over locating the agency to construct the parallel taxiway. Apart from this another decision over the mode of sharing the cost is yet to be taken.
But in so way the project is a new one, since in the year 2006 five different organizations viz. Airports Authority of India, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Defense Ministry, Naval Authority and the Goa government had agreed on the necessity of the construction of a parallel taxiway. The meeting also decided that the project would be jointly supervised and executed by both of the Navy and Civil Aviation Ministry. However, in the last two years, there have three different versions in respect of the construction of a taxiway but any such strong move is yet to be taken. What has more been found is that the construction would take not less than 10 months provided the construction project is finished at a stretch. But no one is there who can actually suggest about the commencement of the work or the perfect date. The consultants have recently been appointed for a proper survey and preparation of estimates. This indicates that the area shall have to wait for long but once completed the movement of air traffic would be enhanced to a great extent.
